David is the President and Principal with over decade of experience in the design and management of mechanical systems. With a Bachelor of Engineering Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, David is adept at managing projects from concept to completion. His leadership skills and passion for the industry have also led him to the role of Guest Lecturer for an array of HVAC and Architecture courses at Western University. David's experience includes projects in the institutional, educational, healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors, as well as commercial facilities and the arts. Select clients with whom David has worked include the University of Toronto, Toronto District School Board, Oxford Properties Group, and the Remai Art Gallery of Saskatchewan.
ALEX CRANDALL, P. Eng., LEED AP, BD+C
Principal, Building Performance & Commissioning
Alex is the Principal of Building Performance & Commissioning, with over 15 years of experience dedicated to improving the built environment through energy reporting and the quality focused building commissioning process. He has acted as the Commissioning Agent for a diverse range of projects, including new construction, tenant fit-up, existing building commissioning, energy audits, building analytics, and ongoing commissioning. Alex has also successfully provided energy modelling, utility bill analysis, carbon emissions analysis, PV array sizing, and sustainability certification consulting services. Across all services, Alex seeks to provide cost-effective and practical solutions to the issues facing leading-edge high performance buildings.
Alex has had exposure to multiple building sectors, including mission critical, leisure and recreation, emergency services, residential high-rise, public transportation, retail, commercial, and schools.
CHRIS SAUNDERS, P.Eng., LEED AP
Commissioning Engineer - Western Canada
Chris is a Commissioning Engineer with over 16 years of consulting experience and a passion for sustainable design. He takes an active role in each and every project, working closely with the design team to maximize passive design strategies and implement the most applicable energy efficient HVAC and water conserving plumbing systems. He successfully evaluates alternate systems in terms of energy performance, controllability, and occupant comfort.
HELEN O'REILLY, P.Eng.
Senior Commissioning Specialist, Associate
Helen is a senior commissioning specialist with 5 years of experience; a McGill University graduate with a Bachelors of Engineering, Helen received her P.Eng designation in 2017. Prior to joining the HRCx team, she focused on commercial commissioning and tenant design of building systems. She views engineering as a way to combine both her creativity and analytical sides. Helen’s approach to design and commissioning is to always provide the best value while putting herself in the owner’s shoes. Her experience includes commissioning chilled water systems, Enwave deep lake cooling connections and energy performance improvements in existing buildings.
ALEKHYA KAIANATHBHATTA, B.A.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc., P.Eng., LEED Green Associate
Senior Commissioning Specialist
Alekhya is a Senior Commissioning Specialist with over 7 years of experience working in the engineering field. She has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, graduating in 2012. Joining HRCx in 2023, Alekhya brings her knowledge and understanding of building efficiency and building services, and is sure to be an asset to the team.
KATHERINE LUI, EIT, M.Eng.
Commissioning Specialist
Katherine is a Commissioning Sepecialist with HRCx. Joining the team in 2022, Katherine is passionate about addressing climate change while finding sustainable solutions to address today’s energy problems. Graduating with a Master of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2021 and with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Katherine brings a fresh perspective to sustainability and her expertise in residential HVAC design, and performing load and efficiency calculations.
ZAID QURESHI, B.Eng., PMP, LEED Green Associate
Commissioning Coordinator
Zaid is a Commissioning Coordinator with over 2 years of experience working in the engineering field. He has a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Mumbai in India, graduating in 2019. He has also obtained a post-graduation certificate in Applied Energy Management from Conestoga College. Zaid’s knowledge and understanding of building efficiency and building services is an asset to the HRCx team.

Robin is a Commissioning Coordinator with a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Victoria in Victoria British Columbia, graduating in 2023[RD1] . Robin’s growing understanding of building efficiency and building services is sure to be an asset to the HRCx team.
GAVIN STRACHAN
Commissioning Technician
Gavin is a Field Services Manager and Commissioning Technician with over 34 years of experience. With an Inter-Provincial Certificate, Industrial Electrician License and Electrical Apprenticeship through the Joint Apprenticeship Council, he has also pursued professional development initiatives including an Electrician - Construction and Maintenance Certificate, Industrial Electrician Certificate, Electrical Construction Estimating Certificate and various Management Seminars. Gavin possesses construction management expertise in a variety of sectors, with project experience that includes the Ministry of Transportation Ontario Service Centres, Rogers and the 2015 Pan Am Games Athletes' Village.
FRANK LAMB
Electrical Designer and Construction Administrator - Western Canada
Frank is an Electrical Designer with over 20 years of experience in engineering and construction. He specializes in power distribution and lighting design, as well as contract administration and commissioning. Frank is adept at project management, fire alarm verification and site reviews. Prior to joining The HIDI Group 2011, he worked on a variety of projects including the TransCanada Pipelines Tower and Gas Bar, as well as bulk facility designs for various organizations.
