The HIDI Group delivered commissioning for MDA Space’s new Global Headquarters and Centre of Excellence for Space Robotics located in Brampton, Ontario. This was a purpose-built facility by the Kaneff Group for its tenant MDA Space.

The MDA Space campus comprises a 127,000 ft² head office in the South building, 52,000 ft² of office space in the North building, and an 80,000 ft² research facility. This state-of-the-art facility includes ISO-certified cleanrooms, controlled-environment laboratories, secure material handling systems, automated manufacturing for specialized components, data centre R&D spaces, and areas dedicated to assembly, integration, testing, and quality assurance.

The campus features a diverse array of specialized laboratories designed to support cutting-edge research and development. These include cleanrooms built to ISO standards, electronics labs, chemical labs, thermal environment simulation chambers, vibration testing facilities, laser laboratories, solar simulation labs, and anti-gravity simulation environments. In addition to its technical spaces, the site houses a dedicated data centre and an isolated communications infrastructure to support secure government projects. To ensure uninterrupted operations in mission-critical environments, the facility is equipped with electrical redundancies, including multiple generators and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. This cutting-edge campus is home to the Canadarm3 and represents the future of space exploration robotics. It also features a dedicated Space Robotics Mission Control Centre, enabling MDA to support critical in-orbit operations for both commercial and government space missions.

Opening in time for the 2021-2022 NHL season, the new Sportsnet Studios, located within the Rogers Communications Downtown Campus encompasses 20,400ft2. Designed by BDP Quadrangle the television broadcast studios was carved out of an existing floor plate that was prior used as office space and includes two broadcast studios, washrooms, storage rooms, rack rooms and two temporary control rooms with 2 new audio rooms. The project was split into two phases, first phase involving a feasibility study and second involving the design and build out.

The HIDI Group provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing while Alula Lighting Design provided architectural lighting and HRCx commissioned the project. Mechanical the team addressed the spaces HVAC, smoke venting, fire protection, plumbing and drainage systems while electrical the team addressed critical E2 and UPS power distribution, life safety systems, power for mechanical systems, power and systems rough-in for security, A/V, and communications, and architectural lighting controls.

HRCx provided Commissioning for Rogers 333 Bloor - 3rd Floor Conference Centre and Agile NH Space. The 3rd Floor of Rogers 333 Bloor building is utilized as an amenity type floor, with the west side of the floor used for a conference facility and the east side planned for hoteling area and agile project workspace and also includes a specialty area and prep kitchen, to assist the conference area.

The conference area to be used for internal training, onboarding and internal and external client meetings and includes 3 large multipurpose rooms, two 24-person rooms and two 20-person rooms, and prep kitchen. All meeting rooms have booking screen panels.

The Rogers Centre of Excellence (COE) is the nerve-centre of their television, special events and radio networks. It houses the consolidated master control facilities in a non-traditional open-plan control room which enables “follow me monitoring” allowing staff to monitor signals from anywhere in the space to support special programming without interfering with day to day operations. The primary spaces of the 15,000ft² facility are located on the 3rd floor of 1 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, and includes a redundant data centre for Sportsnet in 333 Bloor Street East suitable for almost 100 racks. HRCx provided Commissioning Services for the space.

99 Atlantic is the newest class A – office building to join Toronto’s Liberty Village. The 148,814 ft² building spans over eight storeys and includes four levels of below grade underground parking. The makeup of the building includes seven storeys of office space with the ground floor for retail and back of house services. The new office tower was built as part of the existing historic factory complex located at 40 Hanna Ave.

Owned by Kervic Real Estate Corporation and designed by WZMH Architects the building has achieved LEED Gold and designed to accommodate a high occupant density of 100 ft² per person, it also includes a emergency generator with nominal spare capacity as well as the ability to add additional future tenant generators and ventilation as needed for the rise of occupant load.

HRCx provided building commissioning. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing design was provided by The HIDI Group. The project was designed as core and shell with on floor services capped at the core level. Services also included requisite life and property safety systems which were roughed in.

HRCx is providing fundamental commissioning services for this 57-storey mixed-use facility, located at an existing heritage site in downtown Toronto. The facility is comprised of commercial, residential and retail components and is targeting a LEED gold certification as well as the Toronto Green Standard (TGS) voluntary Tier 2 certification.

The project is projected to be completed by 2021

HRCx was retained to provide LEED Fundamental and Enhanced Commissioning services for the new 40-storey office tower located at 100 Adelaide Street West in downtown Toronto.  Working together with WZMH Architects, this project for Oxford Properties Group is comprised of 998,004 ft² of office space, retail units, and below-grade parking in a new structure, while maintaining the property’s historic façade. This exciting project is certified LEED Platinum certification. The finished building contains a connection to the Enwave District Energy system

Home to the Canadian headquarters of this IT giant, the project encompasses a 4-floor fit-out over 80,000 ft². The facility features a client-facing Innovation Centre that is one-of-a kind in North America, video conferencing rooms, cafes, collaboration spaces, a critical computer room, and multipurpose rooms. Aptly located within a new LEED Platinum high-rise in Toronto’s downtown core, HRCx provided commissioning services for this LEED Gold certified project.

The project involved the functional testing of the tenant floors and included verification of the new VAVs, fan-powered VAVs, Fan Coil Units, and Computer Room Air Conditioning units based on sampling techniques. The Power of Ethernet Lighting System and Controls – the first largescale commercial installation of PoE-enabled luminaires in North America – were also functionally verified.

HRCx is providing commissioning services for the southwest corner of Richmond Street West and Sheppard Street and forms part of the 2.4 million ft² Richmond-Adelaide Centre (RAC). Originally constructed in 1923, with substantial renovations in 1989, the building was designed by C. Howard Crane and is a designated heritage building under Part IV of Ontario Heritage Act. The existing structure is 11 storeys and contains approximately 145,000 ft² of above grade floor area, together with one below grade level that connects to the RAC retail concourse and PATH system. As part of this project, the existing building was connected to the Enwave District energy system

HRCx provided retro-commissioning for the base building systems. The property comprised of 20,159 m² (217,000 ft²) of office space and 3,510 m² (37,784 ft²) of retail space. The project consisted of completing retro-commissioning to meet LEED® EBOM requirements for the heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting systems.

Facility components identified for performance and energy improvement were based on retro-commissioning list of findings. HRCx provided contract administration to engage specialized architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical consultants to pursue various options to renovate the building structure, envelope, mechanical and electrical systems to enhance performance and overall facility appearance and prestige. Cost consultants were engaged to provide capital costs for recommended renovations.

Three options were provided to the Owner for consideration as well as a complete Retro-commissioning Report. Client did not actively pursue LEED® EBOM.

Retro-commissioning systems included heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting control.

Specialty systems included major building renovation options for building envelope improvement and a structural addition.

The new offices for Unilever Canada Inc. entail the tenant fit-out for offices located on the 12th, 13th and part of the 14th floors at 160 Bloor Street East, Toronto, Ontario.

The base building consists of fifteen rentable floors and is a mixture of offices and open areas that showcase excellent natural bright light and a beautiful view of Bloor Street and Rosedale. The base building area is approximately 29,450 m² (371,000 ft²). The base building had been certified LEED® Gold.

The site of the tenant fit-out is located on the 12th, 13th and part of the 14th floor. The total tenant area is approximately 4,274 m² (46,000 ft²). Each floor consists of general open and closed office space, meeting areas, kitchenettes and copy / printer rooms. Unilever Canada Inc. will fulfill the Fundamental Commissioning requirements in accordance with the Canadian Green Building Council (CaGBC) LEED® Commercial Interiors Version 1.0.

HRCx provided the LEED® commissioning which includes heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic hot water, lighting and lighting control as well as building control.

HRCx provided commissioning services for this
$24 million tenancy project at the Oxford Properties Group head office in Toronto.  The project included tenant fit-up to offices on the 5th to 9th floors and partial areas of the 10th floor within the North Tower of RBC Plaza.  The project, which is LEED Certified, was delivered on a fast-tracked schedule providing only 1.5 months for design.  The total size of the project was roughly 96,000 ft².

HRCx provided commissioning services for this 140,000 ft², 16-storey office building project with 2 levels of underground parking. The project involved the complete replacement and upgrade of existing mechanical systems to current standards and LEED Gold certification in a heritage building, as well as connection to Enwave deep lake water cooling and district steam.

HRCx provided retro-commissioning services for the base building systems at 7070 Mississauga Road. This 240,000 ft² facility was built in 1987, and the project was implemented in advance of a new tenant occupying the facility.

The retro-commissioning program adheres to the LEED Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance (EB-O&M) rating system guideline. The scope included prerequisite (EAp1) Energy Efficiency Best Management Practices: Planning, Documentation, and Opportunity Assessment and credits (EAc2.1 to EAc2.3) for Existing Building Commissioning: Investigation and Analysis, Implementation and Ongoing Commissioning. The project is targeting LEED Silver EB: O&M certification.

Synergy Credit Union is a new four-storey office building with a total area of 60,000 ft².  The new facility will be located at the intersection of 50th Avenue and 42nd Street in the neighbourhood of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.  The facility, designed by AODBT Architecture + Interior Design, has been modelled after a hotel concept, complete with a double height central atrium.  Operations and the majority of the staff will be located on the second floor in assigned workstations and shared meeting rooms that are available on an as-needed basis.  The ground floor will include a raised floor plate to maximize space flexibility, minimize room relocation and associated costs, and improved air quality with a displacement ventilation system.   Commissioning for the Synergy Credit Union will target the Energy and Atmosphere Prerequisite 1 (EA Pr1) Fundamental Commissioning and Credit 3 (EA Cr3) Enhanced Commissioning.

The new Synergy Credit Union has been designed and constructed to achieve LEED Silver certification, as recognized by the Canada Green Building Council. Commissioned systems as required by LEED include heating, ventilation, air conditioning, domestic hot water systems, and lighting controls including day-lighting as well as building automation controls. 

Specialty systems include main floor ventilation provided by displacement air ventilation or under floor air distribution.  A dry cooler has been included for winter operation.  The cooling system also supplies ventilation pre-heat during the winter months.

HRCx is providing Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) for Rogers Communications downtown campus located at 333 Bloor Street East and One Mount Pleasant Road. 333 Bloor Street East is a 10-storey building that measures approximately 330,000 ft² and One Mount Pleasant Road is a 17-storey building with approximately 640,000 ft² of space. Together, they house three chilled water systems.

HRCx has been retained to carry out the EBCx process, including Planning, Investigation, Implementation and Turn Over, to moderate energy costs, return building systems to design intent, and optimize performance.

HRCx is providing Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) Services for Rogers TV studio located at 70 Assomption Boulevard, in the Rogers building in Moncton, NB. The building has four (4) above grade floors, with a total area of 28,228 ft².

The scope of the project included Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx) in four (4) phases: Planning, Investigation, Implementation, and Turn Over.

At the start of the project it was determined that heating and cooling equipment was non-functional, and needed to be returned to service before proper testing could begin. An energy model was created to help the commissioning team and the Rogers team understand the impact of select energy conservation measures

HRCx worked with Rogers to return this equipment to proper service, and then conducted a full ReCx scope on the building.
